Whiplash and Other News

So, I wrenched my neck on Tuesday and I’ve exacerbated the old whiplash injury.  I’d like to claim I was doing something heroic but it was humiliatingly domestic and not worthy of being part of a story.  Between this and the right ankle which still occasionally twinges (or the hip if I’m balancing my weight badly because of the ankle), clearly my body isn’t in optimum working condition.  However, the fatigue is much, much better than it was which is great because pain I can manage; the fatigue I still have difficulty managing.

Unfortunately today I’m very stiff and pained because yesterday I cleaned the house.  I’m beginning to think I should ask my Dad to pay for a cleaner for a year as my Christmas present but I know it’s a waste of money when my pain is under control.  Possibly I just need to pace myself better (before Mauritius I had got into the habit of splitting the house up – top, middle and bottom on different days).

In other news, I haven’t done very much over the past couple of weeks (unsurprisingly) between the revision for the exam and the health issues but I did manage to find time to do the necessary things which included putting together the training material for a course I’m running pro-bono for a charity organisation in Novemeber.  I’m looking forward to it.  Next week, I’ll be focused primarily on the business as the psychology is now on hiatus until January – I do have a couple of projects in mind around articles but they’re not top priority.

Writing wise National Novel Writing Month starts on 1st November and I will be taking part again in the hopes of getting the draft of the novel finished.  It’s been going reasonably well anyway but I like taking part in NaNoWriMo.

The cat is doing well.  She’s completely settled in and spending time in the garden on her own and happily coming back in when she’s called.  She’s still a riot.  I’m looking forward to Dad meeting her since he’ll be home soon (and thank God because he can take over doing the vacuum cleaning).

Finally, let’s talk about the X Factor because clearly Simon’s advice to the judges this week was “be controversial and make it about you rather than the contestants.”  Gary clearly tried by calling Sami’s performance boring and cruise ship (which was true even if she has a great voice – Louis did the same thing last time with Mary), and blaming Louis for making bad acts worse.  I think the problem is that actually Louis does have great acts this season but he’s just using the same formula with them as he always does – hence Sami=Mary and the cruise ship comparison.  With the other two he’s gone for the ‘put on a flamboyant show to hide the flaws’ strategy which is off target for a number of reasons.  Kitty does suit a flamboyant styling and staging, but she’s actually is a better singer than she’s been given credit for, and with Johnny who can sing, has the most incredibly unique voice and seems to be a really likeable funny guy, it’s coming across as Louis making a joke out of him rather than celebrating Johnny’s very real talent.  Maybe the strategy will keep them in the competition but especially with Johnny I feel its undermining his credibility as an artist: he’s not Lady Gaga.

Of course, Gary’s attempt at controversy was almost blown out of the water by Tulisa and then Louis calling out Misha (who had the stand out performance of the night) on her behaviour backstage.  Personally, I agree with Gary and Kelly: if there is a problem it should have been handled backstage and not used in judging commentary.

And that’s it for this week.  I’m off to do some writing and figure out a menu for next week so I can do my Tesco’s shopping…

Easter Madness

I say I’m busy every week but I really am!

Health: The good news is that I am getting a much better handle on what my body can cope with, what it can’t and how to manage the whole enchillada. The bad news is that I’m pushing myself.  Some of that is intentional; some of it is not.  And it’s incredibly difficult explaining to people still.  My Dad and sister, for example, need music when they’re driving: I mostly prefer silence these days because of noise sensitivity issues.  We had a six hour journey to Durham and back on Saturday so I endured six hours of music.  And then pushed my body by watching Doctor Who.  I had to spend all of Sunday in silence to counter the incipient migraine.

Family & Friends: Lots of friends and family this week.  Caught up with my best friend via a long phone call.  Made contact with a friend who’d just suffered a bereavement.  Most importantly, we (meaning Dad, sis and I) took the cat’s ashes up to my mother’s grave and scattered them along with my Uncle.

Psychology: Shoved to the back burner last week but I’m bringing forward this as I have a lot of reading to do for the project!

Coaching business: Excitingly I’ve had more queries come in from the website which is great!  More networking on Wednesday with a counselor but I really enjoyed that.  Still, lots to do in terms of getting course material sorted.  I also went on a first aid course on Thursday which was enlightening.  CPR is very hard work!

Writing: Still writing although plans to do more SGU reviews fell by the wayside for a variety of reasons including my need for silence yesterday.

Most fun thing of the week: Actually the most enjoyable thing has been the writing this week.

Random thought of the week: The vacuum cleaner works much better now Dad has connected all the bits together correctly…

So, I finally have a website that says more than “under construction.”

I spent most of yesterday and this morning getting four pages to a stage where I was happy with them.  Ah, yes; my old friend “perfectionism” strikes again.

One of the pages definitely needs to change again (mainly because it is a holding page) but the others are “done” with one sentence to change on the homepage when I get more content up on the website or all of it to change when I get feedback saying “It’s awful!”

Anyway, link is now added to my About page. 🙂

Business Prep

Well, I spent the day updating the business plan and sorting out the marketing plan.

Which wasn’t exactly the plan for today.

The plan for today was to write the second essay I have due next week but I woke up tired so something easier seemed to be the best bet.

It’s been good to get back into the detail of the business after putting it on the back burner because of my health.  And I think I have a workable plan which is great.

So, essay tomorrow because I definitely want a draft done by the weekend.

I’ve discovered the hardest thing ever is coming up with a strapline for the business logo.

I resorted to brainstorming today and still don’t think I managed to get it completely right.  But at least seeing the logos and seeing the strapline in the logo meant that I knew it wasn’t right.

Like I’ve said before – a whole new appreciation for marketing people.

In other news: I finally managed to get out of the house for the first time in two weeks and had a walk to the post box even if the rest of my plans for the day went slightly awry.

Business Progress

Having rested all of yesterday, it was with great glee I hosted a marketing workshop today for the new business.

The experts arrived early and we cracked through the process very quickly.  It’s been very fascinating.

In reviewing it, I think all of the questions they asked were things which I had thought about and considered but just don’t know what I do with the information in terms of bringing it altogether and understanding it all to actually market the business.

So, I’m looking forward to the report which should hopefully help me to do that.

New experience, new skills so all goodness.

I am tired though.  I went to bed for a twenty minute rest afterwards and ended up stretching that out to an hour.

Which briefly delayed my other exciting activity today: receiving the photos from my photo shoot!  There are some that just have me laughing out. Some of my ideas clearly worked better than others in terms of what I wanted to try.  But there are some really great pics and lots of choice for the website.

Really lovely to see more of the business stuff coming together. 🙂
